Festival Review + Photos: Fitz and the Tantrums at Rock The Green (Milwaukee)

Annie: I didn’t even need to make my way to the stage, I could hear the infectious chorus of “Don’t Gotta Work it Out” from Lincoln Memorial Drive. It takes a lot to wake me up before noon on a Sunday, but Fitz and the Tantrums playing in my very own hometown was a special occasion. I ran inside Rock the Green’s makeshift fair grounds as the telling bass notes started “Winds of Change,” and there was Michael “Fitz” Fitzpatrick center stage, belting it out for all of Milwaukee to hear.

Festival Review + Photos: Luísa Maita and Sergent Garcia at Madison World Music Festival (Madison)

Yesterday brought talent from continent after continent to Madison both at the Willy Street Fair as well as the Terrace. Thankfully Willy Street was included this year, especially after a tough summer with the neighborhood being torn to pieces to replace the main thoroughfare. Nevertheless the voice of Brazil, according to NPR, gave a vibrancy unlike anything the vendors or merchants could provide with a peek into the neo-samba world of São Paulo. In case you didn’t know, her music was also used to promote Rio to the Olympic Committee, thus helping land the 2016 Olympics. This time around the Midwest, compared to the last time I saw her in Chicagoland last fall, she debuted a good gathering of new songs, including several in English, before wrapping up a great encore that entices the ears past Lero-Lero.
