Here’s further proof that that the only show I go to are not only metal shows!
Aly and AJ are similar to Lights for me where I feel like I’ve been following them forever. Though I admittedly haven’t listened to Aly and AJ’s music much before this show they’ve been on my radar for a very long time. Mostly with Aly Michalka’s acting roles, specifically in iZombie -I love that show. So given the chance to catch their set and photograph them was something I didn’t want to pass up and am glad I got the opportunity. This night was one of the toughest shows I’ve had to shoot. There was no barricade set up between the stage and crowd, so whatever shots I’d want to take I’d had to finagle my way through the crowd and work for them.
Musically this night went great. Rainsford is an artist whom I never heard of before but impressed me quite a bit. Quite poppy but interesting and very talented. She has a very good voice and am interested to follow her in her future works.
The loud screams that came out of the crowd when Aly and AJ came on stage were the closest I’ve been to anything like that since 5 Seconds of Summer. A very full room greeted them enthusiastically and kept it up throughout their whole set. For me personally, their set went full on amazing with their last four or five songs. “Rush,” “Like Whoa” and “Potential Breakup Song” are all favorites of mine and were great to hear one after the other. “Rush” even made me feel perfectly at home with them ending the song on a metal-like tirade.
It’s been eight years since Aly and AJ went on a tour like this and I can only hope that it won’t be that long of a wait to see them again. They promised that they’ll be back next year, so here’s hoping to that!
