Instagram has been key for me over the past year or so. Not only have I met some amazing people through it, but I’ve come across a ton of bands that I had never heard of by following a bunch of other concert photographers and seeing what band they’ve shot. Alteras one one of those bands that caught my attention. One of the other concert photographers I follow posted photos from an earlier date on their tour, they usually have quite similar taste in music as I do, so I checked them out and fell in love soon after.

A week later I got to experience their live performance and was treated to small intimate showing. I got a strong Spencer Sotelo vibes from Ateras’ singer JC Clasen, which is a huge sticking point for me as he’s one of my favorite vocalists. The band strings together incredibly well sung cleans with brutal screams along to pair with insanely catchy melodies and heavy breakdowns and as a bonus JC turned the show into a comedy act with the joke “Mickey Mouse is having a nasty divorce with Minnie Mouse. Mickey spoke to the judge about the separation. “I’m sorry Mickey, but I can’t legally separate you two on the grounds that Minnie is mentally insane…” Mickey replied, “I didn’t say she was mentally insane, I said that she’s fucking goofy!” Apparently it didn’t go as well in other cities, but I found it pretty funny.

Alteras brought it energy-wise, making everyone watching dance around. Their set was short but sweet (or else it felt that way), and left me wanting at least a few more songs. The band came out with their first full length record “Grief” last year, and if this is only the beginning before they get better, I’m excited to hear what they come out with next and see them again.

Thoughts?
