DNCE kicked off their US tour at the House of Blues in San Diego with a fun-filled and energetic show. Right off the bat they made their entrance onto the stage sporting Darth Vader masks and light sabers as the speakers were blasting “The Imperial March.” If I was to describe the band in one word, it would be “extra,” and I mean that in the best way possible. This particularly applies to bassist Cole Whittle as he was constantly jumping around the stage and wiggling around on the floor. Joe Jonas looked effortlessly cool as he walked the stage.
The set included the entirety of their debut self-titled album which they released this past November. To play a couple of their slower songs they sat on a makeshift wooden crate couch which made it feel like a very intimate performance, despite the venue being sold out. Some memorable covers included “Let’s Dance” by David Bowie, “Closer” by The Chainsmokers, and tidbits of “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls and “Oops!… I Did It Again” by Britney Spears. DNCE kept the crowd entertained and singing along throughout the night, which is really all one could ask for in a pop concert. Overall I found the band’s catchy tunes enjoyable and ideal to counter the gloomy weather we’ve been having lately. Definitely consider attending a show near you for an evening pick-me-up!
