The Silversun Pickups stopped by the Sunshine Theater last Friday night for their first ever performance in Albuquerque. The evening began with Kiev, who’s most noted for their song, “Be Gone Dull Cage,” which appears on the television show “The Walking Dead.” Their use of integrating saxophone into indie-rock jams made for a great warm up. Next to the stage was the group A Silent Film, whose sound pulls more towards indie-pop, yet the energy was present in getting the crowd on a roll just before the main event.
By 10pm Silversun Pickups had made their way on stage to see a sold out crowd that had been waiting over 10 years for the band to make a stop in the Land of Enchantment. The set began with tracks from the most recent album like, “Cradle (Better Nature),” but the show went on with SSPU playing songs from almost all seven albums released since 2005. It’s safe to say that it was worth the wait, as the momentum of the show picked up everything from roses to boxers ended up on stage. Frontman Brian Aubert looked humbled by the ABQ crowd, showing a sweet grin the entire night. While the U.S. tour is coming to an end in Utah next week, the band will be at a string of festivals in Europe in the coming months. For more info check out: http://silversunpickups.com/tour/.
