Gates, CHON, and The Dear Hunter hit The Observatory in Santa Ana for a show that completely blew minds away.  I missed the window to photograph Gates completely but loved their post-hardcore tunes.  If you like math rock, jazz, and laughing then CHON is the band for you.  These guys are smooth as hell and their tunes are even better.  Do yourself a favor and check out their debut record, Grow.  You will not regret it.  The Dear Hunter is a band that leaves me impressed every time I catch them live.  They always put on these incredibly high energy shows.   Everyone down to the man on keys loses their mind throughout the set and frontman Casey Crescenzo’s voice just eases that experience.   Hands down Act IV: Rebirth In Reprise is a solid record but hearing some of it live was RAD.  Then throw in songs like “The Old Haunt,” “Misplaced Devotion,” and “Whisper” into the mix among others and you have the makings of an incredible show.  Luckily for all of us it was.
