He’s Baack!!!!!!!! Well, they are back.  Together that is.  David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen have finally brought back Van Halen as it was intended.  Let me take a brief moment to thank Sammy Hagar for filling in for Roth in the past.  I am sure he did what he could but no one really can replace Diamond Dave.  He has always been the voice of Van Halen in all the fan’s eyes and has definitely reclaimed his throne with this tour.

Nearly a week has gone by and I am still speechless.  I mean just standing there in the pit a couple of feet away from the magic, witnessing all the theatrics, the screams, and the guitar riffs was just an unbelievable experience.  One that makes me proud to sport a 1984 album cover tattoo on my shoulder.

The band we all know had issues getting along in the past and I am sure we were all wondering if too much damage had been done or if they had somehow managed to put all the drama and the negativity behind.  Short of concert clips and news segments I had never witnessed them live.  I had just heard about them from my older brother and his friends and obviously I had built quite the anticipation through the years and I have to say the blew my mind away.

From the first moment when Dave came out with a set of cymbals you knew you were in for the show of your life!  They exceeded all of my expectations and set new performance standards in my eyes.  This was probably the biggest concert I attended since the Michael Jackson era.  It woke up an array of emotions to the point I started kinda chuckling at myself when I noticed I stopped taking photos to sing along to “Runnin’ With the Devil” and just stared wide-eyed at Dave during “Everybody Wants Some!!.”

I feel I witnessed a part of music history from the best seat in the house.  Another golden moment of the show was watching the crowd explode to “Hot For Teacher” and of course the guitar solos!  No one plays the guitar like Eddie Van Halen, no one could keep a crowd so engaged clinging to every riff.  Dave sat down telling a few stories to the crowd before singing “Ice Cream Man,”  laughing at how difficult he is to work with, laughing at the misadventures of his solo career to openly admit that his Van Halen days were the best of his life, and I would like to thank Van Halen for one of the best night of my life!

I am not sure if they are planning to tour again but I’ll tell you this, it might not be 1984 but the band has proven bigger and better now than they ever were.  If you do get a chance to see them live, jump on it and don’t miss it, you would definitely regret it.
