One of the highlights of every Long Islander’s summer is a show at Jones Beach. Fans get there early to tailgate and lay on the beach before the show and there’s a summer atmosphere that you don’t feel at most other venues. I don’t think any two bands better fit this vibe than Third Eye Blind and Dashboard Confessional. Dashboard Confessional was up first playing old hits such as “Stolen” and “Vindicated.” Frontman Chris Carrabba has an incredible stage presence that commands the attention of everyone in the venue; even if Dashboard Confessional was not the band they came to see. With acoustic songs and more upbeat full-band songs, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. They ended their set with “Hands Down” and the whole crowd stood up from their seats to dance around while singing every word. They put on a great show!
Next, the stage went black, a microphone dropped down from the ceiling, and Third Eye Blind took the stage. With their new album, Dopamine coming out this week, the band played some songs off of that as well as older hits like “Never Let You Go.” They also did a cover of “Mine” by Beyonce that I think might be better than the original. Stephan Jenkins has such a distinctive voice that makes everything he sings beautiful. Jenkins said during their set that after they sold out their New York City and New Jersey shows, they didn’t think anyone would show up to the Long Island date, but it was still packed with thousands of loving fans who even stuck it out through the rain that hit half way through their set. Third Eye Blind ended the show with “Jumper” and “Semi-Charmed Life” and with everyone singing and dancing along, it was the perfect ending to a fantastic show!
