Matt and Kim hit Los Angeles for 2 nights at The Fonda Theatre. I headed to the venue for night 2 straight from Mastodon’s show at the Hollywood Palladium just a few blocks away. I missed Waters but having seen them tons of times before I don’t doubt that they blew the roof of the joint. I got inside just a handful of minutes before Matt and Kim took the stage. I was a bit intimidated with the giant platform on The Fonda’s already high stage, but those feelings quickly left as I soon learned that a Matt and Kim show is a place for fun. Matt and Kim put on the funnest show I have been to in a while. There wasn’t a single person in the venue, even upstairs in the seats that wasn’t in motion during the set. The duo’s songs are inciting enough, but when you add in jams from DMX and R.Kelly among some others, you get the makings of a fantastic party and party we did. Everyone lost their minds as Matt and Kim pulled out antic after antic throughout the night. Confetti, balloons, Kim’s dating service, and even a parachute were just some of the things they pulled out during their set. It was RAD. The duo wanted to give night 2 one more song than night 1 and it came down to a vote where “Lessons Learned” won by a landslide. It was a blast to hear and jump around to. Matt and Kim are beasts on stage and I would recommend you catch this incredible couple whenever you get the chance. This was my first time seeing Matt and Kim but after a set like the one I witnessed, it certainly won’t be my last.
