Union Transfer in Philadelphia, PA

Courtney Barnett and San Fermin are a bit of an odd pairing but wow, are they both fantastic live.  Selling out Union Transfer on a Monday (so mundane), is no easy feat but they managed to pull it off.  Courtney Barnett has pretty much exploded since the last time she played at Union Transfer.  According to her, this was the biggest show that she has played to date thus far. After getting “married” to an excited fan, Courtney and her band played many of the songs from her EP Avant Gardner!  She also treated her Philly fans to an encore featuring some songs off of her forthcoming album.  Allen Tate, San Fermin’s male singer, who happens to be from Philadelphia, is pretty much Matt Berninger.  He has an awesome baritone voice and like Matt, looks slightly awkward on stage -but in a cool way. The rest of San Fermin, and there are 8 of them, will blow your mind with their unique brand of baroque/dad rock.  Also, this was the 2nd show that I’ve been to this week that has ended with a horn playing musician in UT’s audience.
