The Walkmen’s very own Hamilton Leithauser graced Los Angeles with his presence at The Echo last week. His new record, Black Hours is an incredible collection of moody songwriting that was showcased beautifully at The Echo. The packed crowd basked in the ambience of Leithauser’s voice and the string quartet that included fellow Walkmen member Paul Maroon on guitar, Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanlij, and Fleet Foxes’ Skyler Skjelset. Though songs on this effort prove to be a bit softer, Leithauser’s cheekiness was still apparent in moments like when he played, “I’ll Never Love Again” and “In Our Time (I’ll Always Love You)” back to back or when he proudly displayed his 7-row travel chess set he bought cheaply earlier that day. The performance breathed new air into older fans and without a doubt enamored new ones. It’s obvious Hamiilton Leithauser has so much more up his sleeve. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a copy of Black Hours and don’t forget to catch Leithuaser on tour. Dates are here.
