The Menzingers Rented World Summer Tour is underway and brought Cayetana, Pup, and Lemuria out to The Irenic in San Diego last night. The show kicked off with the all-girl punk trio known as Cayetana who got the crowd’s attention with catchy riffs and hilarious on stage conversations. They gave off a stellar vibe that isn’t that easy to do especially being the first of 4 acts. Up next came the Canadian invasion group Pup who brought the bang. The energy was unreal and got the crowd moving every which way with songs like “Reservoir.” Towards the end of their set, an epic stage dive was done by front man Stephan, while still playing guitar. The next band to the stage was New York band Lemuria. Lead singer Sheena Ozzella, brought a one of a kind voice to the stage that definitely got my attention. With a mellower sound and beautiful vocals, it was a pleasant change after Pup. The Menzingers then took the stage and came out on fire starting off with their hit “I Don’t Wanna Be An Asshole Anymore.” The crowd instantly became a sea of moshing and crowd surfing. Frontman Tom May was the source of the energy. He made his place known and just genuinely knows how to rock out. That was the story for the rest of their set -loud, energetic, and just all around great. The Irenic was definitely the place to be.
