After missing my chance to shoot Against Me! at Austin’s Fun Fun Fun Fest in 2012, I made sure I was at the House of Blues early last Friday. I still managed to miss the first band but got to San Diego just in time to catch Tony Molina play an awesome, albeit short set. Tony Molina is a definite staple in the San Francisco hardcore music scene so chances are you might have heard him even if you haven’t heard of him. But if you haven’t, I’d highly recommend you look him up. Finally Against Me! graced the stage and the sleepy crowd went nuts, myself included. Laura Jane Grace hit the stage running and the guys weren’t very far behind. The energy in the room only increased as each song was played. The only time it stopped was when a fight broke out in the pit and the band stopped the show to make sure everyone was okay. “Just be cool,” Grace told the crowd. Shortly after the band went into “Don’t Lose Touch” and the crowd freaked out and I freaked out and even the security guard in the corner freaked out …it was so so rad.
