New Orleans based jazz-funk-jam-band Galactic, stopped at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia on Saturday night. Charles Bradley, the “Screaming Eagle of Soul” opened the show. If you aren’t familiar with Charles Bradley you should be. The documentary Soul of America  chronicles Bradley’s life, and his unlikely music career that took off in his mid-60s. Charles Bradley and his very talented band, The Extraordinaires, were fantastic.  During his final song of the set “Why is it so Hard,” Bradley got down in the photo pit and gave hugs to the entire front row.  Bradley’s set -complete with a few outfit changes, was worthy of being a headlining performance.

Galactic started off their set with a few really awesome instrumental songs, before bringing out fellow NOLA based singer Maggie Koerner, who quickly stole the show. All of the members of Galactic looked like they were having the time of their life on stage, which gave the show a really fun vibe. Also, they brought along a pretty awesome light setup. Although Charles Bradley is only with Galactic for a short stretch of their tour, if either is playing near you, I highly recommend going, they both put on a great show. The rest of the tour dates are here.
