Concert Review + Photos: Hurray for the Riff Raff at Mercury Lounge (New York, NY)

Hurray For the Riff Raff (New Orleans, Louisiana)
November 4th, 2013
Mercury Lounge (New York, NY)

With an inspirational story, passion for music and soulful lyrics, it’s no wonder Hurray for the Riff Raff‘s lead singer, Alynda Lee Segarra, is set to be one of the most powerful female voices in 2014.  Accompanied by her fiddler Yosi Perlstein and New Orleans troupe, the Tumbleweeds, Segarra performed a great show on Monday at Mercury Lounge, in which I was very happy to attend. She started off the night with a beautiful acoustic version of the song, “The New SF Bay blues”. Instantaneously engaging the audience with her soulful voice and range, especially when she sang her hit song, “Look Out Mama” and “Ode to John and Yoko.”  As she invited spirit family reunion and Deslondes back on stage, they accompanied her with singing new songs such as “Small Town Heroes,” that will be on her newly released album out next year. The night ended with an encore of Segarra’s rendition of “Be My Baby.” In conclusion, it was a great concert and I look forward to hearing the new album.
