Have you ever listened to lyrics that had the rawness of emotions penetrating your heart? Well, on Saturday night at Terminal 5, the privilege was all mine as I watched Elena Tonra, vocalist of Daughter, take center stage. Accompanied by her boyfriend/ guitarist Igor Haefeli and percussionist Remi Aguilella, Elena Tonra’s beautifully haunted and ethereal voice mixed with the upbeat energy of the echoing drums and guitar effectts, thus providing the audience with a “cathartic” yet tranquil experience.
Mixing her quiet demeanor on stage with the ability to bare her soul, as audience members we become engrossed and deeply moved as we listen to Tonra purge her personal demons and express those emotions we are prone to conceal during devastating heartbreak. This is vividly indicated in her most famous song, “Youth” with Tonra singing “And if you’re still bleeding you’re the lucky ones, because most of our feelings, they are dead and they are gone.” To close the night with a more uplifting atmosphere, they encored with an unique version of Daft Punk song “Get Lucky.” Overall, it was an enchantingly thrilling concert.
