It seemed like my friends were in one of two places tonight at 8:30:
1. A wonderful wedding taking place in the 7th Street Entry.
2. Taking in the band of their dreams at Roy Wilkins, that last played in town 10 years ago at the 7th Street Entry.
Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard, Jimmy Tamborello and Jenny Lewis (of Rilo Kiley) released Give Up in February of 2003 and the three followed it up with a modest 25+ stop US tour in smaller clubs. Not too long after, Death Cab took off and Ben followed.
With the 10th Anniversary re-issue of Give Up, the band decided to take their act on the road once again. With the help of Laura Burhenn (of the Mynabirds) on backing vocals and keys, they put on a smile-filled, 80 minutes show. For some, it allowed them to cross a band off their bucket list as they may have been too young to go to the show ten years ago.
I was unable to stay after my three songs were up, but did you go? Leave a comment below with your thoughts on the show, favorite song, favorite moment, etc.
