The Echoplex is killing it right now with the shows they are hosting. They had another sold out night for Black Moth Super Rainbow and the house was up to the brim with energy. The night started off with two different DJ’s that warmed the crowd. The crowd was doing 1 of 2 things: drinking and dancing inside or drinking and chatting outside while the two supporting acts went on. I went outside for a bit and noticed a guy in track shorts and a hoodie come through the doors. My friend Dylan’s friend Barber Doug laughed, “Look, that guy ran here.” “I think that’s Tobacco” Dylan said. I didn’t know either way which is terrible but the only time I’ve seen Tobacco was at Low End Theory and I was wayyyyy in the back.
After a while I went back inside and headed to the back of the venue. An awesome thing about The Echoplex is that regardless of where you stand you have a pretty awesome view. Hanging out in the back gave me the opportunity to observe the crowd and see what effects a few drinks and a few top 40 hits can have on a person. As the night went on the temperature at The Echoplex increased substantially. By the time Black Moth Super Rainbow hit the stage the venue was very toasty and everyone let loose. A large majority of the setlist came from their latest release Cobra Juicy but from staring at the crowd you wouldn’t know if it was new music or old music. They received it with the exact same full energy. It’s been a while since I had seen a whole crowd lose their shit over an artist’s music. This was the show to be at if you wanted to dance like no one was watching. Literally, nobody was watching-well, except me every now and then I guess (sorry, but you were all exquisite). Everyone was in their own zone doing their own thing and minding their own business while doing it. Cheers to the guy air punching throughout the whole show. Also, to the guy walking around the venue throughout the night making sure everyone was having a good time. Don’t miss Black Moth Super Rainbow when he comes to your town. Dates are here.
