The Echoplex in Los Angeles, CA
It was a Tuesday night in Los Angeles where Steve Gunn, The Fresh & Onlys, and Kurt Vile and the Violators were set to take the stage at a sold out Echoplex. New York-based Steve Gunn and his band started the night off with some soft and soothing sounds before The Fresh & Onlys hit the stage. If you aren’t familiar with the San Francisco band this is something you need to get on immediately. The Fresh & Onlys are not only great to listen to they’re incredibly fun to watch. Guitarist Wymond Miles looks like what we all want to feel like when we play guitar. He is exquisite. Vocalist Tim Cohen was on point the whole set and the rest of the guys in the band killed it. I can’t wait for the band to come back to LA as a headliner. Finally, Kurt Vile and The Violators hit the stage. Kurt Vile stepped on stage in the white jeans, shirt, jacket, and converse as he does in his music video for “Never Run Away.” He played with his full band and even did a few songs without them. Though his face is hidden behind his voluminous hair a lot of the time every now and then you could sneak a glance to notice the giant smile he wore. The crowd was calm throughout his set. It was like the audience was too mesmerized to be active. As Kurt Vile strummed the last chords of his song he looked up and said, “you’ve been a beautiful audience, see you in the parking lot.” Don’t miss any of these acts if they tour around your part of town -dates can be seen here and here.
