The Roy Wilkins Auditorium has a special place in our hearts for bringing some of the coolest bands in and housing the fantastically badass Minnesota RollerGirls, but it also has a special place in Hell reserved for its inability to create the coveted First Avenue concert feel for bands like Sigur Rós.

The problem is, the Roy is big enough to hold bands with enormous video screens and huge mesh curtains that give the illusion of a band playing within a fish tank. Whatever the complaint about the venue was in the past, it seemed to be lost tonight in the music and sights that Sigur Rós brought with them.

We were allowed to shoot songs four and five tonight and I can tell you that around song three (vaka) the venue was the quietest I had ever heard the venue. The display of musicianship, visuals, creative instrumental use, and lets throw in that they were not singing in English, all created a show that made more than a few people border on sensory overload. If you don’t know this band, go see them. If you know them, you know you should be there when they come through town. Of course, as always, enjoy the photos.

Rather than have everyone who wants to know the set list from tonight having to download a font set, I took a photo of the set list!
