Kid Rock (Detroit, MI) and Bob Seger (Detroit, MI)
March 15th, 2013
Xcel Energy Center in St Paul, MN

On a snowy March evening in St Paul, classic rock fans made their way to the Xcel Energy Center to see the genre-crossing Kid Rock and the timeless rocker, Bob Seger¬†perform. This was not only a night to revel in some of Rock’s greatest songs, but also a time for the adults who were alive when the songs came out, to dip back into their bag or 70’s shenanigans and be troublemakers again.

The last songs I had heard from Kid Rock were “American Badass”, “All Summer Long” and his duet with Sheryl Crow, “Picture”. What I didn’t realize was that I still knew every word to the album Devil Without a Cause!

I grew up on Bob Seger, Stranger in Town was played a lot on Saturday morning in the house growing up, and now it has a place in my vinyl collection. When it comes to people I have wanted to see live, Seger has been at the top of my list, and to photograph the show too was such a thrill. He still has it, and the show was outstanding.

The surprise of the night came in the encore when Kid Rock joined Bob Seger on stage during “Night Moves”. They did four songs together, two from each other’s catalog. “We’ve been wanting to do this for a long time” said Seger, as he and Rock grinned from ear to ear through the entire collaboration.
