My Morning Jacket is currently on their Spontaneous Curation Tour. Each night they are asking fans to request songs off of their entire discography for the setlist. Since they are doing a few nights in each city they promise that each night will be completely different from the night before. No repeats, no excuses. Last week they brought the tour to Los Angeles where they did 3 nights at The Wiltern. I caught night 2 of 3. Night 2 benefited Inner-City Arts, a foundation that uses art education to help develop creativity and self-confidence in children. The night started off with Iron & Wine who played beautifully. I walked into the venue about half-way into his set as more people walked in behind me. By the time My Morning Jacket was ready to play their set, The Wiltern was packed. The band put on an excellent performance. They had this amazing string of lights set up along with bears on each side of the stage. Also, what a crowd! Such nice folks on the main floor and there were beards everywhere. The band sounded great and played what seemed to be a lot of fan favorites. There were people with their arms up in the air the whole time and fans who sang every word. There were also a lot of folks who planned on being at The Wiltern all 3 nights. This particular couple mentioned that by the energy of the show from the beginning, night 2 was gearing to blow night 1 out of the water. That couple was absolutely correct. My Morning Jacket made the Wiltern feel like a stadium rather than a theatre. I’m sure night 3 was just as incredible. Don’t miss your chance to see these dudes live, dates are here.
