Say Anything’s latest tour in support of their newest release Anarchy, My Dear led them out to San Diego Wednesday night.  Say Anything brought along Tallhart, Fake Problems, and Kevin Devine and the Goddamn Band with them.  I missed Tallhart and most of Fake Problems ‘ set. (I saw their sets the next day at the House of Blues in West Hollywood though and they were incredible. Tallhart, bravo! Actually that whole West Hollywood show, bravo!) Kevin Devine put on a beautiful performance as usual -though the crowd was a bit hesitant it seemed.  I  imagine they were saving their energy for the performance they must have anticipated Say Anything would put on.   I saw this kid at the show wearing a t-shirt that said “Pop Punk is not dead.” Say Anything is definitely making sure it is alive and well.  From the moment the band hit the stage the crowd went ballistic.  Frontman Max Bemis had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand the entire night.  Towards the end of the show Bemis’ wife and Eisley member Mrs. Sherri Dupree-Bemis surprised the crowd and came on stage to sing “So Good.”  Right after Max was back to climbing onto where the drums were set up, jumping in and out of the crowd, and generally being a badass.  The setlist was nicely composed of some of their best songs -new and old, starting the night off with “Spidersong” and ending with “Admit it Again.”  The crowd was beautiful and sang every single word even though Bemis told them that it wasn’t mandatory for them to know the new material yet. For those of you overseas: your chance to see the show is coming up! Tour dates can be seen here.
