Concert Review + Photography: Archie Powell & The Exports at Subterranean (Chicago, IL)

Archie Powell & The Exports (Chicago, IL)

Subterranean in Chicago, IL

Unless you were at the CD release show at Subterranean Friday night, you’ll have to wait to hear Chicago’s Archie Powell & The Exports sophomore album, Great Ideas In Action on May 1st. The crowd at the Wicker Park venue were treated to various New Year’s Eve antics, which included a balloon drop (I was told somewhere around the 230 balloon range), a confetti drop, and confetti cannons.  Great Ideas In Action may not be released yet, but it is receiving stellar reviews; including a 4 out of 4 star rating in Chicago’s RedEye.

If you’ve been to an AP&E show before, you know to expect one thing for certain, a non-stop rock and roll dance party. The crowd at Subterranean, whether new to an AP&E show, or veteran  fans gathered close to the stage in one giant swollen dance bubble. The band played  many new songs from Great Ideas In Action, and classic audience favorites from Skip Work. Joining the Exports on stage was Alex Ward, from Chicago band, The Noise FM. Ward, will be joining AP&E on tour, playing keys and lead guitar.  In true Archie Powell fashion, Powell played so hard that several times he lay on the stage while playing. Powell still played, while bassist, Adam “Melby” sat on top of him. Currently on a month-long East coast and Canadian tour, check their show schedule to see if they are rocking your town.
