After seeing Nick Thorburn, Islands frontman, with Mister Heavenly last year I was curious to see what one of his other shows was like. Valentine’s Day this year just so happened to kick of Islands’ latest tour in support of their newest record A Sleep & A Forgetting. The crowd was greeted by a stoic frontman playing piano in the corner. The band was experimenting with a seated show until towards the end Nick told the crowd to “kill the chairs” and the energy in the Bootleg Theater exploded. Between the band’s lounge-esque style, Nick’s shoes, their exchanging of instruments throughout the night, a guest appearance by local rappers Busdriver and Subtitle, and Nick’s dancing -Islands puts on a hell of a show.
