Photography: Brand New at the Regency Ballroom (San Francisco)

Brand New (Long Island, NY), Sainthood Reps (Long Island, NY), and ROBBERS (Long Island, NY)

The Regency Ballroom in San Francisco, California

After not having graced California with their presence since October of 2009 Brand New booked two shows in the state. Chico and San Francisco played host to fans from all over and off the top of my head I met some pretty charming folks from So Cal, Ohio, Utah, Georgia, along with some SF natives.  The band was accompanied by ROBBERS who had Vinnie helping them out on guitar and the saxophone (do yourself a favor and get their EPs) and Sainhood Reps who just released their album Monoculture not too long ago with Derrick Sherman as a member.  The sold out shows were really intense with everyone pushing up to get as close as possible.  A lot of people always bail within the first few songs of Brand New’s set but for those that stuck it out know the energy at the front was incredible.  Jesse Lacey was in high spirits and their setlist was a nice mix of songs from each of their albums. As the songs got older the crowd got louder.  Sweat drenched fans walked away with glazed over smiles, bruises, and a feeling of accomplishment high-fiveing everyone they could. Get thee to a Brand New show if you’ve never been- it’s a work out and a great experience in and of itself.
